My accordion playing history

I have been playing the accordion since about 1971

I studied at the University of Hull from 1973 to 1979 where I was awarded a Doctorate in Biochemistry while the accordion playing had a rest.

I  joined the Norwich accordion band in March 1981.

From 1982 onwards I was accordionist for the Norwich Clog team until 1991.
In 1988 I was accordionist for a ladies clog team based in Dereham called Oops-a-Daisy Clog where I continued as their musician until 1995.

In 1992 I joined Ninepins Ceilidh band and played with them until 2005 when when the original members of the band decided to stop playing.
We made a recording in 1994 called "Breakfast at Fred's"

In 2001 “Mixed Bunch” Ceilidh band was formed and I  played with this group until ill-health forced the band to "call it a day in" 2012.
From 1996 to 2000 I played for the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society for their practice sessions.
I played in “Small Fry” Ceilidh band, created in 2001 - just one accordion (me) plus Alan Helsdon calling the dances until 2022 when Alan H decided to call it a day.

In 2002 I recorded the album "Tahiti" with Graham Hart at his studios in Diss
Over the years I have recorded six CDs.

The first one was made with Ian Brooke (from Ninepins) on mandolin accompaniment.

The second was made with Alan Helsdon on percussion accompaniment.

CDs three to six are of midi accordion recordings made during the period May 2016 to January 2021.

I play for events such as birthdays, dinner parties, afternoon teas, Xmas Fayres, Burns night, Oktoberfest, French and Italian evenings, weddings and funerals.

The French theme is always very popular - I have my own beret, stripey Tshirt and string of onions.
